National Frozen Foods Month: Nature’s Pause Button

March 19, 2018 by Tommy's Superfoods Leave a Comment

march is frozen food month

Did you know that March is National Frozen Food month in the U.S.?

Frozen foods have been part of our national diet since 1930, and as technology advanced, foods on the freezer shelves have been increasingly more delicious and good for you, too.  Studies have shown that frozen foods – when it comes to fruits and veggies – are just as good for you, if not better than fresh.

Freezing is nature’s pause button.

At Tommy’s we’re excited about frozen foods all year round (of course!), but we get especially excited during National Frozen Foods month.  It’s a time to celebrate the history of frozen foods and how frozen foods have revolutionized cooking and eating in America.

Tasty

Frozen vegetables are flash frozen within hours of harvesting, locking in nutrients and crisp veggie texture.  Unlike “fresh” vegetables which sometimes spend weeks on the road – from farm to warehouse to semi truck to grocery store – before they arrive on your plate, frozen vegetables are just as tasty on your plate as the day they were picked.

Our frozen vegetables are even tastier… Through trial and error, we truly tried it all to find the most unique and complementary blends, then lightly seasoned them with Tommy’s signature spice blends,  so you can enjoy vegetables seasoned with their very best, most harmonizing counterparts.  And we’ve created so many, you can literally have a different taste every single night. Or find your favorite and let the obsession settle in.

Healthy

Just as freezing locks in taste, freezing fruits and vegetables also locks in all the vitamins and minerals that make those fruits and veggies good for you.  A number of studies show that frozen fruits and vegetables rival their “fresh” counterparts when it comes to nutrition.  If chosen wisely (read the labels!) frozen foods can also help with weight loss, since many come in single-serve and small plate options – portion control you don’t have to think about.

Easy

Frozen foods have definitely made our lives easier.  Whether it’s the bag of Tommy’s Superfoods you always have on hand to help get dinner on the table quickly, or the frozen berries in your smoothie at breakfast, there are plenty of options in the freezer section.  Freezing keeps our foods nutritious and delicious so it’s ready whenever you are – without any worries about waste or spoilage.
